Diversity & Inclusion

I am deeply committed to diversity and inclusion, in my practice and in my life. I strive to make my practice as accessible as I am able. I have worked with a wide range of clients, with differing needs and circumstances.

  • Communication - I am only able to communicate fluently in English. Due to the small size of my practice, I do not have any kind of interpretation service. That said, basic bodywork sessions can often be quite successful with minimum spoken communication. I have had clients who brought a friend to interpret, or who were content to do an awkward back-and-forth with Google Translate. Coaching and yoga teaching is done in English. I have a pretty good referral network of Health and Nutrition coaches worldwide through Precision Nutrition, and I can likely put you in touch with someone who speaks your language.
  • Body Size - I am more than happy to work with folks of ANY weight on whatever health goals they have. I assure you, I will not pressure or criticize you about your weight. For bodywork, my massage table accomodates a working load of 350lb. For larger bodywork clients I am quite happy to work on a couch, recliner, bed, or carpet.
  • Mobility Limitations - I am currently only offering home visits for bodywork, so this removes a lot of the concerns for mobility limitations. If you would have difficulty getting on and off the massage table, we find another option. My group yoga classes are in a church basement, no stairs, but the practice requires the ability to repeatedly get up and down from an all-fours position.
  • Allergies and Chemical Sensitivity - For my bodywork sessions, I exclusively use an unscented Jojoba oil. If you have something else you prefer, I am happy to accomodate. My sheets are washed with unscented "free and clear" type laundry soap, no fabric softener, but they are sometimes washed at the laundry mat, so you can never be sure of trace contamination. I am happy to use your own sheets, if you prefer. (I do not smoke or wear any scented products, but if you have any concerns in this regard, let me know.)
  • Gender Identity - I have worked with many clients with widely ranging unique gender indentities and expressions. Please have no concerns whatsoever in that area. I am very familiar with a wide range of LGBTQ issues and alternative relationships.
  • Mental and Emotional Concerns - With coaching specifically, there can be many concerns related mental health, ADHD, etc. I am not a mental health professional, but I strive to provide a supportive and nonjudemental space for all clients. These things are likely to come up in coaching, but if there is something you prefer not to discuss, please simply let me know. For bodywork, it is sufficient to say, for instance that you have anxiety, that you prefer not to be touched here, etc, and I will not press if you do not want to say more.
This is obviously not a comprehensive list, but it is the concerns that come up most frequently in my sessions.
